Hurricane Irma was the first Category 5 storm in 2017 that made US landfall. Prior to arriving in the content US, It struck the Lesser Antilles, St. Croix, Puerto Rico,
Dominican Republic and Cuba.
Hurricane Irma was the first Category 5 hurricane of the 2017 hurricane season. In September of that year, Irma caused widespread and significant damage to St. Thomas, St. John & Water Island, as well as to the BVIs. She went on to land in Florida, where damage was also widespread. St. Croix was largely spared, so was able to provide substantial help to her neighboring islands, but only for two weeks when Category 5 Hurricane Maria wiped her out, along with Dominica and Puerto Rico.
