Hurricane Harvey was the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Wilma in 2005, ending a record 12-year drought in which no hurricanes made landfall at such an intensity in the country. It did major damage to Texas.

Hurricane Harvey was the first major storm of the very active 2017 hurricane season. Harvey swept over two of the lower Caribbean islands, then weakened as he crossed the Caribbean Sea, only to intensify as he crossed over the Bay of Campeche. Two days later in August of that year, he slammed in to San Jose Island, Texas, then in to Louisiana and left significant wreckage in his wake. Hurricane Harvey is tied with 2005’s Hurricane Katrina as the costliest storms on record. Each ball on this piece signifies the number of categories the storm was.
